Counselling Style & Approach

My approach is centred on you. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all style of counselling. Instead, I bring together different tools and strategies to meet you where you are. I draw on methods such as:

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

  • Mindfulness practices

  • Other evidence-informed approaches

In practice, this might look like learning new ways to manage overwhelming emotions, reshaping unhelpful thought patterns, finding motivation when you feel stuck, or slowing down with mindfulness. Each session is adapted to your goals and what feels right for you, so we can move forward at a pace that feels supportive and manageable.

Mental Health & Wellness

Counselling services for a wide range of mental health concerns, including:

  • Anxiety, depression, phobias, obsessions, and negative thought patterns

  • Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and related conditions

  • Grief, loss, and bereavement

  • Addictions treatment and recovery support

  • Emotional adjustment to new or chronic health diagnoses (e.g., cancer, diabetes)

  • Disability and accessibility issues (articulating strengths, requesting accommodations)

  • General health, wellness, and lifestyle goals

Trauma and EMDR Therapy

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy designed to help process trauma, distress, and difficult life experiences.

EMDR helps the brain reprocess painful memories in a way that reduces their emotional intensity. Instead of erasing the memory, EMDR allows clients to revisit past events without being overwhelmed by them. This process often leads to a greater sense of calm, improved perspective, and reduced symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.

Sessions typically involve recalling aspects of a troubling memory while also engaging in bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements, tapping, or sounds). This creates new connections in the brain, helping clients move from being “stuck” in trauma responses toward healing and resolution.

EMDR can be helpful for:

  • Traumatic experiences (e.g., accidents, abuse, medical trauma, sudden loss)

  • Ongoing or cumulative stress (e.g., bullying, invalidation, workplace harm)

  • Phobias, panic, and persistent fears

  • Self-esteem wounds and negative self-beliefs

  • Distress linked to chronic illness or health challenges

Clients often describe EMDR as a therapy that helps them finally “unpack” the weight of past experiences and step forward with greater clarity and resilience.
